2-1-1/CAN Resource Data Record Sharing Project Final Report

This project's purpose was to further the Coordinated Assistance Network's (CAN) operations by advancing new and existing relationships between CAN and 2-1-1/I&R's. The project's theoretical basis was that case managers who use CAN to serve disaster survivor clients will do a better job serving them if disaster-related resource data records are available in the same database they use to share client information, CAN's database. Emergency Preparedness Atlas

The Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ) sponsored preparation of this atlas to support local/regional planning and response efforts in the event of a bioterrorism or other public health emergency. The atlas contains case studies illustrating how nursing homes may be used to accommodate a surge of patients in six states. There are maps of selected health care facilities for all 50 States and the District of Columbia.

Jonathan M. Young, NCD Chairman, testified on June 15, 2010 before the U.S. House of Representatives' Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Communications, Preparedness and Response. His testimony, Caring for Special Needs During Disasters: What's Being Done for Vulnerable Populations?, highlighted three main ways to improve our nation's preparedness and response for people with disabilities during an emergency. Among the Chairman's key points is that people with disabilities must be involved in emergency planning.
