Discover How to Support the Employment of People with Disabilities
On July 26th, 2010, President Obama issued an executive order instructing federal agencies to take steps to increase employment of people with disabilities. This webinar from the USDA TARGET Center's Discovery Series from January 2010 highlights some of these key steps. Learn about the technology, organizations, hiring authorities and best practices that enable the employment and advancement of people with disabilities, one of the biggest untapped resources in today's federal and private workplace.
U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Seeks Public Input to Strengthen Disability Regulations
DOL's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs wants input from the public on ways to strengthen its regulations requiring federal contractors to take affirmative action to hire and advance the employment of qualified individuals with disabilities. In an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking the agency invites the public to help revise the regulations implementing Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Input is requested on topics that include what employment practices have been successful in finding, hiring and advancing qualified individuals with disabilities, and what data is available that can be used to create hiring goals and determine their effectiveness. Comments can be submitted through the Federal eRulemaking Portal. Deadline for comments is September 21, 2010.
2010 ADA Audio Conference Series
This audio conference series is sponsored by the Great Lakes ADA Center and provides in-depth information on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). SBA Recommends OSHA Reassess Costs of Proposed MSD Reporting Rule on Small Business
The Small Business Administration's (SBA) Office of Advocacy submitted comments to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on OSHA's Proposed Occupational Injury and Illness Recording and Reporting Requirements Rule (MSD Reporting Rule). The rule would require employers with 10 or more employees (unless exempt) to record certain work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in their OSHA 300 Log. Title II of Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act Takes Effect
On November 21, 2009 Title II of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) took effect. GINA prohibits discrimination by health insurers and employers based on individuals' genetic information. Genetic information includes the results of genetic tests to determine whether someone is at increased risk of acquiring a condition (such as some forms of breast cancer) in the future, as well as a person's family medical history.
