Bureau of Labor Statistics Releases First-time Data on Employment of Persons with a Disability
Persons with a Disability: Labor Force Characteristics 2009 is the first news release focusing on the employment status of persons with a disability. The information in this release is from the Current Population Survey (CPS), a monthly sample survey of about 60,000 households that provides statistics on employment and unemployment in the United States. Some highlights from the 2009 data are - the unemployment rate for persons with a disability was 14.5 percent in 2009, well above the figure of 9.0 percent for those with no disability; and nearly one-third of workers with a disability were employed part time, compared with about one-fifth of those with no disability.
U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Report: Actions That Could Increase Work Participation for Adults with Disabilities
On March 16, 2010 GAO held a forum to discuss actions that could be taken to help adults with a current or past work history improve their participation in the workforce. As a result of this forum and survey results, GAO prepared this report, Highlights of a Forum: Actions that Could Increase Work Participation for Adults with Disabilities. Participants agreed that a more coordinated system of programs and benefits is needed to encourage individuals to work and remove barriers that can jeopardize the services and supports they depend on. Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Program Guidance for Program Year 2010
Provides guidance on the use of the Workforce Investment Act's Youth Program based on information learned during the 2009 youth summer employment program that was funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) of 2009. 2009 Annual Disability Statistics Compendium
Annual publication of statistics on people with disabilities and government programs that serve the population with disabilities. The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Disability Statistics and Demographics compiled the data, which include statistics from federal sources and surveys on disability prevalence, population size, including break-downs by state and disability type, employment and earnings, education, health and health care coverage, rehabilitation, and participation in benefit programs. ABA 2009 Report on the Employment of Lawyers with Disabilities

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) 2009 Federal Work Force Report
EEOC has released its Annual Report on the Federal Work Force for Fiscal Year (FY) 2009. The report assesses the state of equal employment opportunity throughout the federal work force – including trends in the composition of the workforce, and data concerning complaints of employment discrimination in the federal sector – and includes practical tips for agencies to improve their performance. Among the reports findings relating to people with disabilities is the fact that after a steady decline for the past ten years, the participation rate of employees with targeted disabilities in the federal work force held steady in FY 2009 at 0.88 percent. Despite a modest net gain of 236 employees in FY 2009 over FY 2008, Individuals with Targeted Disabilities still fell far short of the 2 percent goal set by EEOC’s LEAD Initiative.

July 2010 Disability Employment Statistics Released
The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics has released disability employment statistics for July showing that the percentage of people with disabilities in the labor force was 21.5. By comparison, the percentage of persons with no disability in the labor force was 70.6. The unemployment rate for those with disabilities was 16.4 percent, compared with 9.5 percent for persons with no disability, not seasonally adjusted.

The 2010 Survey of Americans with Disabilities is the sixth effort over the past 24 years to assess the quality of life of people with disabilities on a wide range of critical dimensions, to measure the gaps between people with and without disabilities on these indicators, and to track them over time. This year, three new indicators were added: technology, access to mental health services, and overall financial situation. While there has been improvement in a few areas, the implication of the indicators is that twenty years after the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act there has not been significant progress in most areas. Reports on Affirmative Action & People with Disabilities
The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy has released two reports on affirmative action policies in relation to people with disabilities and Veterans with disabilities.
